ACD Labeling using Inline PrinterIf you are working on a cross dock process and you believe that the vendor’s labels are compatible with your ACD labeling system, the following description of the labeling procedure can be used as a guide. For identification purposes, we are going to identify the label printer with the number 100. You can use a variety of label printers provided that they are compatible with your conveyor system. The process is as follows. Decide first whether to label your cases with your 100 printer. Your cases can be labeled with 100 if they are conveyable, and your printer is working. To start the process, enter ACD truck number into the system and select 100 to use. Your ACD system fetches the information it needs from the appointment table and sends it to the selected 100 printer. The box is loaded onto the appropriate conveyor that will take it to the correct 100 printer. The 100 printer system reads the vendor label on the box. If it cannot read the vendor label, the 100 printer should print a ‘NO READ’ label and put it on the box. This can include a bar-code that can be read by the sorter which will route the box to the error line for human intervention. If it can read the vendor label, the 100 system matches the vendor case with the information in its table. If it does not find a match, then it again prints a ‘NO READ’ label and the carton follows the path described above. If it does match then the 100 prints a shipping label with the customer information on it and applies it to the box. The 100 system then updates its table to show that the box was received and sends a confirmation to the ACD system that the box was processed. ACD then updates its tables to show that the box has been received, verified, labeled, and forwarded to the merge.
